Anamnesis is my best poem. It came about because I've been watching I, Claudius and wanted to do a play on a line from the hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." I mean, "Here I raise my Messalina" would have been a great line, but I couldn't think of anything aesthetically pleasing to go with it. So I punned "Rock of Ages" instead. It's weird, I write my least happy poetry when I'm in a decent mood.
Runners up are:
Easy/Hard
A poem about war and PTSD.
August affecting an august Augustinian
From a bout with depression. There's an acrostic in there; it rhymes with the last line of the verse it's in. It's been almost a year since I wrote it, and no one, not one soul, has found it. Find it already!
Go hunt through the archives. I wrote a lot of free-verse, but I'm moving towards traditional rhyme and meter. Well, I say traditional. I'm going to develop a bunch of strange meters for my work, just for the hell of it.
It's been an adequate day and weekend. I went to The Boro yesterday to hang with my sister and her hubby (okay, really I went to see my nephew. They're just incidental. I'm KIDDING! ^_^) We were going to see Batman, but given the news of tickets being sold out, and lacking a fourth member for our Fellowship of the Film, we opted to sit around their place after inspecting the digs for the Aardvark Tees Expansion Pack, with New Content and a level cap of 75. Oh yeah, I totally geeked out there.
I spent a good amount of time just playing with my nephew. He's a clever child, at 10 months. He talks to me. I don't understand him, but he talks. So I ask him what he means, and he looks at me like I ought to know.
Cooking is an innate talent in our family. When you have a mom like ours, though--a renaissance woman of sorts--you pick up a lot. My sister made some dynamite tilapia. I was impressed; it was almost as good as the lemon-pepper tilapia recipe of a dear family friend's. I have the most difficulty with fish, so if you read this, GG, I officially hate you. ^_--
After dinner, we watched Balls of Fury, which is not the funniest movie I've seen, but it's on up there. I loved Walken's role, but then again, I always love Walken's role.
Anyway, have fun, y'all. Busy busy busy!
