Smoothest Upgrade Ever

Just got a new system in the other day. It's very, very nice. I spent way too much on it, but it'll be more than what I need for a while.

When I buy a system, I buy as close to the top-end as I can; to do otherwise just ends in frustration. I played some Vanguard and a little EVE. VG looks amazing; EVE looks pretty good. I ran Supreme Commander today. It's as smooth as Command and Conquer: Generals was on my last system. It made me very happy. Now I can play those 83x83km maps and have truly epic conflicts, as the game was meant to be played. Quad Core FTW.

I'm running an Intel Quad at 2.54 per chip. Geforce 9800 GTX. 8GB DDR2 (only 3.5 is recognized by XP.) It's an IBUYPOWER system from Newegg. I'm suitably impressed.

I thought about running off Vista. It's pre-loaded on the SATA drive. I tried it. I died a little inside. One friend, whom I'll call Her Royal Majesty, likened Vista to My Little Pony (in the most derisive of ways.) I call it Windows for Granny. I'll eventually get around to making it more like XP and killing off all the little things that tell me "hey, you're an idiot, do you really want to do that?" because I really DO want to open my software, despite its warnings. Before I use Vista, I need to do that so I don't want to shoot myself every time it opens. I need to see what kind of skins and themes are available; surely someone has made something worth downloading. In the mean time I'm rigged to dual-boot and I'm running XP Pro.

I might actually start gaming more than just a little again.

Not even Carmina Burana can cheer me up. I mean, a song about a swan being roasted ought to cheer anyone up:

Miser, miser modo niger,
et ustus fortitere!

Misery! Misery! How black I am
And thoroughly roasted!

Stupid Cygnii.

In other news, The Director and I got together the other day to brainstorm for the script. This movie is going to rock. We're excited.

We watched Oldboy after our brainstorm session. Amazing movie; I paid careful attention to Odaisu's actions and reactions. It's one I'd like to write about, but I'd feel horrible to spoil it. Go get it, watch it, be awed.

I've been watching The Prisoner to get some of Patrick McGoohan's expressions and movements down. The way Patrick paces is like a caged lion; his head turns and his body follows fluidly. I want to do that in at least one scene, as an homage to the first great TV series. I'm intense enough for my role, but intensity alone won't cut it.

I'll be out for the next few days. Busy busy busy. Oh, and there's fun to be had. Join me. It is your destiny.
