Thankfulness III

Today was a craptastic day, but it's still a day--a day the Lord has made--and given the number of times I've cheated death, I ought to be a more thankful for each of those I have.

So first, I'm thankful for today, despite the idiots, rednecks, and personality-less individuals with whom I had to deal. I'm to a point of exhaustion with dealing with the public. I need to work less and focus more on myself and my future. I'm thankful for everything--I just feel like too little butter spread over so much toast, to borrow from Bilbo Baggins.

Second, I'm thankful for literature. Not just books, but literature. Now, I take a broad, non-genre-specific view of literature. Literature, ultimately, is the form of writing that concerns itself most with the study of the human condition and human nature. I was thinking about Faulkner today, and his intense study of the deep chthonic horrors of humanity. I love Faulkner.

Third, I'm thankful for the awesome red couch my boss bought for me as a housewarming gift. It was comfy to sleep on last night.
